Experiencing a religion- or belief-based incident can have a significant impact on your wellbeing, sense of belonging, and ability to feel safe in your environment. Whether the incident was directed at your faith, beliefs, religious practices, clothing, or perceived religion, it is important to know that support is available.

Religious discrimination, harassment, or prejudice can include:

  • Offensive comments, jokes, or stereotypes about your religion or beliefs.
  • Being treated unfairly because of your religion, faith, or belief.
  • Mocking or criticising religious practices, observances, or clothing.
  • Exclusion from activities, opportunities, or groups because of your religion or beliefs.
  • Verbal abuse, intimidation, threats, or hate incidents.
  • Online harassment or the sharing of offensive content targeting a particular faith group.

If you have experienced a religion- or belief-based incident, you do not have to deal with it alone. You may wish to:

  • Talk to someone you trust, such as a friend, colleague, tutor, manager, or member of support staff.
  • Access support and guidance through GSA support services.
  • Make a report through Report + Support to explore your options and receive advice.
  • Seek support from specialist organisations that provide advice on discrimination and hate incidents.

You will be listened to, treated with respect, and supported in deciding what, if any, action you would like to take.
