Transphobia is the fear, dislike, prejudice, discrimination, or hostile attitudes directed towards transgender, non-binary, gender-diverse, or gender non-conforming people.

Transphobia can take many forms, including:

  • Deliberately misgendering someone or refusing to use their name or pronouns.
  • Making assumptions about a person's gender identity or expression.
  • Asking intrusive or inappropriate questions about someone's body, medical history, or transition.
  • Excluding someone because they are trans or non-binary.
  • Making jokes, comments, or sharing content that demeans or stereotypes trans people.
  • Bullying, harassment, intimidation, threats, or online abuse.
  • Discrimination in study, work, accommodation, facilities, or access to services.

Transphobia can be experienced as a one-off incident or as a pattern of behaviour over time. It can have a significant impact on a person's wellbeing, confidence, sense of belonging, and ability to participate fully in work or study.
